World Cup and Politics, Dr M gets a taste of his own medicine
Dr Mahathir should be given due credit for his ability in seizing the people’s attention away from the World Cup frenzy.
However Dr Mahathir believed too much in his charisma and totally ignored the power of incumbency. Although Pak Lah did not come out to reply Dr Mahathir, the whole government and BN machinery are orchestrated to shore up support for the Prime Minister.
Minister Nazri was very brunt. He had said in Parliament that “we supported Dr Mahathir because he was the Prime Minister. So what is so wrong when we are still supporting the new Prime Minister?” For them, name like Dr Mahathir doesn’t count anymore. Come a day, Pak Lah would also face the same fate. This is Umno’s political culture.
I did not blog yesterday as I wanted to wait a little to see how the nation is waking up to Dr Mahathir’s strongest criticism against Pak Lah.
The majority thought Dr Mahathir had gone overboard with the personal attacks against Pak Lah. Yet a sizeable minority wanted Pak Lah to give answers to Dr Mahathir’s questions and settle the matter once and for all.
Amidst the controversy, PAS said they were gearing up for an early election. But their stand on Article 11 and the Section 112(1A) send shivers down my spine.
Well, football fans may just want to forget the woes of price hike, the AP scandal and Dr Mahathir for a month.
After the finals, they will decide what to do.
