Happy Fathers’ Day. I am not blogging on how I spent this occasion, after all my two sons are just eleven and seven. My own father passed away 20 years ago.

I thought we should remember the founding fathers of our country. Malaysians of this generation would probably have very little impression of Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tan Cheng Lock, Tun Sambanthan and those who won Independence from the British.

We were taught that the major races worked together, shared power and established this country.

We have a parliamentary democracy based on a Constitution, which guarantee rights and privileges for its entire multi-ethnic people, with Islam as the religion of the Federation but not an Islamic State.

Fifty years later, we have achieved much economic growth and may achieved status of a developed nation. But I am concern that Malaysians are still very much divided over racial, religious, cultural, educational and social issues.

As fathers, we are responsible in creating a suitable environment for our children. We have to make sure that Malaysia would grow in a way that all future generations would be thankful to be citizens of the country.

Fathers, over to you.
