Land is required to build roads. Car sales are not restricted. Volume on roads are not restricted. Over time, more roads are built for more cars, etc. Penang island will choke itself to death without a long term viable transport system. Adding more buses will not solve it in the long run. A LRT, as in Singapore the MRT, must be in the pipe line. All lines are built overhead thus mininise the need for land acquisition. With a complimentary reliable bus system looping the island and designated zones not covered by the LRT system, there will be less cars on the road when traffic jams, pollution and high fuel cost becomes a factor for the people to decide for a alternative transport mode.
