Minister Nazri Mohd. Aziz told Parliament a few minutes ago that the ACA is investigating Datuk Zakaria, the controversial Assemblyman and former Klang Municipal Councillor.

He retorted Kit Siang, “Who says the ACA is not investigating….you said how Datuk Zakaria can gather so much wealth without getting the attention of ACA.”

Nazri spent an hour trying to explain away why Malaysia dropped by five places in the Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index.

At the end of it, I just feel even the Pak Lah could do little to rid corruption.

The Malay/Bumiputera equity in the Malaysian Stock Exchange is now 36.6 percent or RM78.4 billion in term of value.

The Deputy Finance Minister Awang Adek Hussin said today that based on information submitted to the Stock Exchange, there are now 41 percent of listed companies with at least 30 percent or more Bumi equity.

But in this instance Umno leaders are not willing to accept the accolades for the success of the New Economic Policy, the NEP.

For their own political interests, Umno leaders are still chasing after the now- attained 30 percent Bumi equity. What they wanted is a Never Ending Policy.

The Economic Planning Unit is now beholden to fulfill Umno’s political aspirations to advance the Malay Agenda which is the cornerstone of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s National Mission the next 15 years.

What is worrying now is EPU will introduce programmes and activities which may promote the narrow Malay Agenda but is against the larger national interests.

With the NEP objectives now achieved, the EPU should now focus its attention on real wealth distribution to overcome the problem of income disparity especially the intra-ethnic disparity. (more…)
