A bill to amend the EPF Act has been tabled today for first reading.

Here are some of the highlights:

1. To expand the choice of investment available to members of the Fund and EPF Board may authorize transfer of any amount standing to the credit of such members into fund management institutions from the date such member has attained the age of fifty-five years.
2. No contribution and no dividend may be credited into a member’s account after such member has attained the age of seventy-five years. This is line with the proposal to make it compulsory for a working member to contribute until he has attained the age of seventy-five years.
3.EPF Board may transfer all sums of money standing to the credit of a member to the Registrar of Unclaimed Money when such member has attained the age of eighty years.
4. Transfer of credit of a member of the Fund in accordance with the division of matrimonial assets order
5. Good news for many: any member can make a withdrawal to help his spouse who has taken a housing loan to settle or reduce the housing loan without the need to be registered as a co-owner of the house; to allow a member who has a credit that exceeds RM1 million to make withdrawal, withdrawal for the purpose of taking up a health insurance policy

Perodua Kelisa a quality car, says Abdul Raman

At The Dewan Rakyat
Reports by ZULKIFLI ABDUL RAHMAN, FLORENCE A. SAMY AND ELIZABETH LOOI

PERODUA Kelisa is not the worst car in the world as claimed by a foreign automotive critic, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Abdul Raman Suliman.

Instead, he said the model scored the highest points in quality in the JD Power Asia Pacific customer satisfaction survey.

“The comment ‘This is without doubt the worst car, not just in its category but in the world’ on Kelisa is only a personal view by the critic Jeremy Clarkson.

“From 2001 to 2007, Perodua exported more than 2,400 units of Kelisa to the United Kingdom and the sole distributor had never received any negative response,” said Abdul Raman while replying Chow Kon Yeow (DAP – Tanjong).

To a supplementary question by Hamim Samuri (BN – Ledang), Abdul Raman said Clarkson was a magazine columnist who not only criticised Kelisa but also other established cars such as the Lamborghini.

“He is just like a football commentator who does not play football but he knows the game,” he said.

Earlier, Abdul Raman said Malaysia modified the cars meant for export to meet the importing country’s safety standards and requirements.

He said Perodua would always be proactive in improving quality and services.

“This includes quality assurance, upgrading its warranty and improving its research and development.”
