PAS Election director Datuk Mustafa Ali said that PAS members continued to regard both the Barisan Nasional and DAP as the enemy.
“I know you are not comfortable with the DAP but between the two evils, the DAP is the lesser evil,” he said at the PAS muktamar held in Kota Baru yesterday.
I am not surprised that PAS members regard the DAP as their enemy. I know the DAP had been unwavering in many issues that make PAS unhappy. There were many exchanges in Parliament over religious, economic, social, gender and human rights issues the last three years. Although PAS and DAP MPs occupied the same bench, sometimes we do not share the same value and view on such issues.
There were several instances when PAS MPs (especially Salahuddin Ayub) are more willing to take stand similar to those expressed by UMNO MPs because of their similar racial and religious background despite their different political affiliation.
During such occasions I felt a sense of despair.
Well, PAS has to decide who they want as their friends.

perhaps for what some may see as partisan reasons, i’m more sympathetic to the approach taken by ronnie liu

Maybe your point on contact with PAS should be redirected to D. Husam? He seems like a more approachable and constructive leader.

PAS says DAP is evil. Ronnie Liu says PAS are his “brothers and sisters” (his words). In other words, Ronnie considers PAS as family and Umno as the enemy of the family. But, what is DAP’s position between Umno and PAS? Answer: It must be the same position taken by hundreds of thousands of Malaysians who have voted for the DAP through numerous general elections. And the position is this: Between Umno and PAS, there is nearly no difference. They are interchangeable. Both are enemies, not only the enemies of DAP but also of freedom. So, Chow, don’t despair. Take a position, a strong position. Also be sure you know why you are taking it. If you are with your constituents, then tell Ronnie either to shut up or give up his DAP membership. After that he can be a Muslim, join PAS, and then call Nik Aziz, Father.

It takes time to reconcile the differences.
No alliances are without problems especially those with allies with different methods or ideologies.
Rome is not build in 1 day. Therefore, the only alternative is to continue working on the sticky spots but avoid confronting it in public in the mean time.
