Today we are pleased to announce that the Penang DAP is proposing that Jeff Ooi, Prof. P.Ramasamy and Liew Chin Tong be selected to contest in Penang in the coming general election.

We believe that their selection would contribute to our effort in securing better electoral results in Penang.

We recognise that the people have decided to give their support to the DAP but they also wanted the party to present a strong slate of candidate in Penang.

Besides prevailing political environment and strategies, the selection of candidates and their placement in either Parliament and state seat is becoming an important factor for voters.

It is because of this, the Penang committee has decided to recomment to the National Candidate Selection Committee to consider Jeff Ooi, Prof Ramasamy and Chin Tong to contest in Penang.

They are potential candidates of high calibre and they are willing to contribute to the future development of Penang and Malaysia.

The Penang DAP will be holding a CNY Open House on Sunday, 10 February 2008 at the North Malaya Cheah Kongsi, Pangkor Road, Penang. The programme is from 11.00am to maybe 1.00pm (provided the food does not run out by then).

This year is special. It is just before the general election. Secretary General Guan Eng will be attending for the first time. Joining him are Anwar Ibrahim and Lim Kit Siang.

The Penang DAP will be holding a forum on the ISA detention of the 5 Hindraf leaders.

It will be held on Saturday, 26 January 2008 at the Penang Chinese Town Hall, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling. (just opposite the Star town office) The programme will start at 7.30pm.

Several DAP national leaders would be attending to meet with those who are concerned about the ISA detention, the marginalization of Indians and issues running up the coming general election.

Those speaking that night are Kit Siang, Karpal, Guan Eng, Kulasegaran, Prof. Ramasamy, Sivanesan and Chow Kon Yeow, the state chairman. Rayer will be the MC for the programme.
