No more “Red Devilish” act, Pak Lah
Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is prime minister and gets to have his way, most of the time.
Malaysia had given its endorsement for the Building Bridges Seminar scheduled to be held early May. But just a week earlier, Malaysia decided to cancel the event. Pak Lah later clarified that the event was postponed not cancelled. But no reason was given for the cancellation.
Now, the Prime Minister wanted Manchester United to come to Malaysia.
“Your wish is our command, Mr. Prime Minister,” said the whole Cabinet.
Never mind about our obligation to the AFC to act as host for the Asian Cup. After all this is Malaysia and we are celebrating our 50th Merdeka celebration with a game with a club from our former colonizer. We want to beat them to show them how much we have grown after 50 years.
But a contractual obligation is an obligation. We are going to be a developed country and we must honour our international obligation (even in the sports arena).
Prime Minister we just cannot do what we want. I hope you will do the honourable thing. Get FAM to honour its obligation with AFC.
For Tengku Adnan, you can find other ways to attract tourists to Malaysia. Who would want to come to a country which does not want to honout its international obligation?
For Azalina the Sports Minister, be sporting. Plan ahead next time. After all the Asian Cup is an important tournament. FIFA may put sanction on Malaysia if we fail to meet our obligation as host of the Asian Cup.
For Red Devils fans, sorry for voicing my humble opinion here. Enjoy your game.
